Between Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz, a no-man's-land is being created with numerous barrier elements that will shape the appearance of the border strip in the first decade. These include the front boundary wall with barbed wire attached, the cusp barriers to prevent breakthroughs with heavy vehicles and barbed wire fences. Most of the watchtowers are still made of wood.
